Trading platform modernization
A proprietary multi-asset platform built from the ground up at roughly a third of the traditional five-year cost of ownership.
68% lower — a $17.5M saving
Challenge
A multi-asset brokerage needed to modernize on a tight budget with no time to spare. Traditional approaches were too slow and too expensive. The question was direct: how do you build a proprietary, competitive platform fast and at low cost without cutting corners on quality?
Approach
We built the platform from the ground up using our agentic software development lifecycle as the accelerant, with a senior engineer owning every gate. Rather than incrementally modernizing a three-tier monolith, we delivered a proprietary platform with no third-party licensing ceiling on instruments, and value landed continuously instead of only at the end.
| Traditional method | Sumantic agentic method |
|---|---|
| Incremental modernization of a three-tier monolith | Proprietary platform built from the ground up |
| Instrument scaling capped by third-party licensing | No third-party licensing ceiling on instruments |
| Sequential delivery — benefits only at the end | Parallel delivery — value lands continuously |
| Excessive sharding of business logic to scale | Every artifact reviewed and owned by senior engineers |
| 5-year cost of ownership: $25.5M | 5-year cost of ownership: ~$8M |
Outcome
The agentic process produced approximately 700,000 lines of production code in two months — every line reviewed and owned by our engineers. The result was a five-year cost of ownership near $8M against a traditional $25.5M: roughly 68% lower, a saving on the order of $17.5M.
